It is so annoying when you comment on another blog and you never know what happens to your comment. 95% of the blogs out there are set up so that the site owner has to OK a comment before it appears on the site. Mine was no different…until yesterday.
In protest of all other blogs, for the last day I have had all filters for comments turned off (except one which will get some of the spam). When you comment on my site, you will see your comment right away! No having to wait at DayJobNuker.com.
I will be watching though, and I will delete the spam as soon as I see it. So far I have only had to delete one post…not bad. Let’s see how many days we can be good and keep the spam out.
9/4/07 Comment filters are back on. I lasted a week but the spambots have gotten the best of me. Oh well. :)

There’s an option which people who are approved to comment after the 1st time can do so without waiting.
Right now EVERYONE is approved. No favorites…and so far no problems.
I’d be curious how long you are able to do this. My blog became overrun with spam fairly quickly.
I wouldn’t be able to try this on my site, I get way too much spam and usually from the same handful. Good luck with it though! :)
I am sometimes in dilemma also, so keep one blog open and the one I suspect spam, I moderate. Thanks for pointing this out. Anna :)
I did a post on blog comments a few days ago at my site. Its a tricky balance of allowing your legit audience to interact with you versus keeping out malicious spammers (and there’s a heck of a lot out there).
If you can implement a word verifier (a.k.a. captcha) for comment posting, it would at least kick-out spambots. I hope you survive your open-house policy, dude. Will be rootin’ for ya!
BTW, great blog. Very informative. Will definitely be coming back for more. :)
yes, my blog also got a lot of span when I did not filter it for spam..curious to see how your blog’s comment will fare after this..
Happy Blog Day! And no this is not spam! Glad to read about this.
I’ve left one filter on which has caught 3 out of the 4 spam so far. I will be gone for a day this weekend so I’m still deciding whether to leave things the way they are or put the filters back up for a day.
I agree none of my sites have comment approval. Why wait. you can just delete spam and i like to encourage not discourage commenting. My blog gets up to 400 comments a post so there ya go.
This is probably a bad idea, as lots of blogs get flooded with spam when the moderation is turned off.
true but people just ignore it if you have captchas and ip tracking then you can block em
I should be so lucky! My little fiction blog rarely gets comments, until recently when I broke the nonstop fiction with little, to me, throw away posts. And then, yes, some comment bothered me, but that was because people misinterpreted my intention. Sometimes, not always, that’s an indication of lazy writing.
Not that I want spam–horrible. But even that only appears two or three times a year. Saying this here may jinx me: I’ll let you know.
