I heard about the Million Dollar Wiki on a podcast at http://www.jobacle.com/. It’s podcast # 69 and the 21 year old behind the idea is interviewed on that show. He is a 21 year old college student who is definitely going to make some serious money.
The question is, whether anyone else is. Each page costs $100.00 and the hosting has been paid for 15 years so you are guaranteed to own it for at least that long. You pick a word or words and if no one else has them you can buy that page. Right now over 400 pages have been sold and so obviously there are tons of good words and word combinations left.
John Chow has bought the page “Make Money Online”, and claims to have already made his money back. He is using it to direct viewers to his website and to pitch some affiliate programs. Someone (not John Chow) even bought the name “John Chow” and so there is a lot of creative thinking going on over there. Shoemoney has since bought a page as well.
I guess I had $100.00 burning a hole in my pocket because I bought a page too. I figure that if I can’t make my $100.00 back in 15 years then I have no business blogging or doing anything else online! Call it a fun challenge. I also figure that those who get in first might stand a better chance because you can get more hits early and get your site up to the most popular quicker.
The page I bought was “Dating Site” and I have put a ton of dating banners up there all from the Commission Junction affiliate program. I have put them inside a Build A Niche store so I can make some Ebay commissions as well.
Will my site ever get any traffic? I have no idea and I haven’t figured out whether I will spend any time promoting it or what. There is much speculation on the net right now about whether those who buy pages on the Million Dollar Wiki are “suckers“. I might be one, you never know, but as I said I should be able to figure out a way to get my $100.00 back. If you go there and are interested in buying a page you can use the code “dayjobnuker” to get $5.00 off when you check out.
Update: I was a sucker and gave the page away for free. Stupid newbie mistake. There are many ways to make money online and they made some off of me. That won’t ever happen again as I now understand how worthless those pages were.

The Million Dollar Wiki has no page rank yet. So I think $100 per page is a little expensive. I may buy a page once the site gained PR. I wonder it can help blogs get more traffic and generate more online revenue.
It is a little expensive. Check out my page and you will see I have a banner up leading back to this site. At least maybe I can get more traffic to this blog from my page.
Can people make money with the million dollar wiki? Of course. However, it is just like making money blogging. The critical factor is what you do with it once you have it.
There’s so many pages in that wiki, is kind of hard to get notice there.
I don’t see the appeal. Unless you can get your page listed as one of the top pages, then you’d be better off hosting it on a decent domain name to get some organic traffic. What sold you on this? Is there some benefit to having your page on here that I’m missing?
Well, my page is number 4 I think and I hope to get some traffic here through the banner I put up. Again, it might be $100.00 down the toilet but that’s OK. I should be able to get some value for it. By the way, a domain name for 15 years is about $9.99 X 15 so this is cheaper than that.
Be sure you let us know how it works out.
Interesting concept!
Hi DJN,
I agree with Hugh in that I think you can make money off MDW – especially if you service the wiki itself with design, marketing etc. If I were to buy another page, that’s what I would do. Still, I think Dating is a hot topic. I have the stock picks page: http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Stock_Picks which got featured yesterday on the main page so I’m up into the 100 Most Popular pages which is great. What kind of advertising have you done to get to the 4th spot?
Good luck!
There’s free advertising done by the owner. Bound to attract potential revenue – and the investment is spread over 15 yrs at least so I don’t think it’s bad. If you find the right niche, voila.
I thought of selling advertising on the page straight away. Also, I come across a great way to get more traffic. Find sites that link to your website and start promoting those URL`s. By doing this it pushes their website up the rankings page. Given time, it is not out of the question for you to have 5,6 or 7 spots on the 1st page of google for your chosen keyword.
Obviously having thses keywords on a popular site like MDW wil help here. Good luck with DJB.
Cheers,
Craig
Hmm, I recently launched a site that is sort of the same thing, but with more features. It basically costs less, looks nicer, 50% goes to kiva, and so on. You can check it out yourself, and I would appreciate an honest review.
