Sometimes I Hate Affiliate Marketing

My Build A Niche earnings have plummeted to $18.80 for the month of November as you can see in the picture below. What’s worse is that I am not convinced that I am getting credit for sales now as my sites traffic has not changed.

For 4+ months now my commissions have looked similar to what you see below up until November 11th. I have alway had commissions coming in every day or so with a three day gap being the biggest. Then, starting on November 12th you can see that only one sale was made for the rest of the month. Again, I must add that my traffic, while not being great to my BANS sites, has not changed.

I emailed Commission Junction support to make sure everything was working and they said it was. I emailed them a second time to bring to their attention that after Nov. 11 something seems very out of character as I am getting hardly any clicks or sales. Again I got no satisfaction from them as they said everything looks good and it must me a “slow time for you” and so on and so forth.

If my traffic had changed that would be one thing but it hasn’t. I hate not being able to be sure that all my links are working. That’s what I hate about affiliate marketing: if you are making no sales you have no way of knowing for sure whether it is because no one is really buying or whether you have something set up incorrectly. Maybe everything is OK but then again maybe it isn’t and I have no way to find out. Frustrating.

Anyway my BANS numbers for November are $18.80 from Ebay commissions and $14.40 from Adsense for a whopping total of $33.20. Woohoo! Let the party begin…drinks are on me!

That is the one thing about affiliate marketing that I hate. The cookie for eBay only is 7 days.

Without knowing your niche it is hard to give you a definite answer but perhaps with people waiting till black Friday to buy items in the US that is why sales may have been down.

    Hey bud,

I had the exact same experience. I’m going to post some links here for analysis, feel free to change them to text if you think I’m spamming.

Anyway, about a month ago, I changed from a lame, Rover-powered site:

    To this:

I’ve been driving the same traffic, and been getting the same number of hits, but my revenue from the BANS store is way way way down from the rover one. I haven’t had a single new sign up all month (was averaging one a week) and my revenue is down about 60% for the month. I’ve also asked CJ, and they say that as long as the clicks are tracked, so are the sales, and they seem to be.

Since it’s the same stuff, and the same traffic, I have to believe something is wrong with BANS.

    That’s pretty weird.

You said your traffic remained the same, but did you check to see if it was coming from a different place? Maybe the traffic you’re receiving isn’t as targeted as the more profitable traffic you were getting before the drop in sales.

The source is coming from my super secret same place 🙂 and some search engine traffic.

How are you tracking your traffic? I have a site based on a similar script to BANS, I have BANS also, it is just taking me longer to put the BANS site up. I have had a few sells, but am looking to increase that of course. 🙂

I’m a new BANS user so found your running commentary interesting and helpful. Hope things pick up for you!

This might be why Ebay kicked CJ to the curb recently. Lots of people were complaining about CJ tracking problems.
