About 3 weeks ago I took all Google Adsense off this blog. I decided I had to in order to make sure I wasn’t getting smart priced. If you want to read more about smart pricing you can at Court’s Internet Marketing School. It is not as though I was making very much anyway and most of you are probably in the same boat with your blogs.
I wanted to make sure that I was getting what I should be getting per click on the few Bans sites and niche blogs I have with Adsense. All the Adsense blogging ads on DayJobNuker were ”make money online ads” and those hardly pay more than a nickle. They had to go, especially if there was a chance they were hurting me somewhere else.
I have now applied to and have just put up some similar looking Yahoo ads. It is my understanding that you cannot get smart priced with these ads so there is no risk of putting them up. If they do poorly on this site (which they will because it is a “make money” site), it won’t hurt me if I put them on other sites as well. I won’t hurt my whole network of ads in other words.
The Yahoo Publishers ads are new and I think they are still in the process of signing up a lot more advertisers. Right now there are only a couple ads showing on my sidebar when there will eventually be 4 or 5. Looks like it is working well now (it just takes more than 24 hours to start working and pulling the correct ads. The number of ads definitely fluctuates. It looks kind of strange right now but I hope it will get better over time. This is the link to Yahoo Publishers ads if you want to check it out. It took almost 2 weeks for them to accept me so you will have to be patient.
I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.

But, I hear that Yahoo Publisher Network doesn’t have that many advertisers. Which is not good for the niche of your site, because if they don’t have any related ads they will just put up ads not related to your site which sucks. Until they pick up more advertisers, I will stick with Google. By the way, aren’t they going to get bought out by MSN. That kind of tells you that Yahoo is a little unsteady.
Mr. Chevy Camaro Guy,
Yahoo is not being bought by MSN as they turned down the offer. I am also sticking with Adsense but just not on this blog. Please read the smart pricing article I linked to on Court’s site to understand why. This blog gets tons of people who don’t and will never click ads. That is bad for Adsense as it can lower the amount you get per click on my other sites. With Yahoo ads you won’t be penalized and something is better than nothing. At least I think so. If it doesn’t work then down it will come too!
Hey Bruce good to hear you finally got accepted. I’m still hoping for the day Yahoo starts accepting international publishers…
Not sure if it’s just me, but I see your ad spot empty…
YC,
I see 5 ads showing right now. It might be because there are no advertisers for your country. Probably.
Very wise decision nuker.
Bruce,
I am using YPN on several of my niche sites and I have also noticed the fluctuation in the ads. Sometimes I was getting 5 showing, and then other times 2. There is also the wide variety of CPC that you will see.
I haven’t had any “Smart pricing” so far that I can tell.
Try using the ad targeting section for your niches, it does work. One of mine was getting the junk ads showing, I used the targeting and now it is doing much better.

You haven’t said if you’ve seen any change in your Google payments since removing the ads from this site. It would be interesting to see the change and know for sure if you were being smart priced.
Paid survey,
I was never sure I was being smart priced before the change. I got some clicks at a nickle or so but then I did also get ones for .75 here and there.
Right now I have noticed no real change on my other sites. But at least I know that I am not in jeapardy of hurting the other sites with this one.
I discovered last November the same thing. I was getting like 30 Adsense clicks per day on one of my product sites. They were paying $.10, hardly worth the time. However, at the time that was my only real source of income on the site. Then I switch to Amazon affiliate ads and they pay from 4 to 6.5% commission on products that are sold. I would much rather sell a product and make $3, and in most cases I was able to sell 2 to 3 products a day, then make $.10 a click. Basically, Adsense was sending my potential customers to someone else and I was not maximizing my earning potential.
2 weeks to get accepted? wow. thats a lot of time. Already sent an application after reading this post. Hope to make money better with yahoo.
Hello,
I saw Zac Johnson’s post today about his earning and there’s a part where he mentioned that he earned around 300000+ from Yahoo Publisher network, I was just wondering if this is the same as what you are displaying at the moment? I’m just being curious
P.S. I saw that it says Beta on Yahoo site, that’s why I got confused
Sorry for my bad English.
I am getting really worried by the amount of post that are about money. Isnt the primary function of blogging to get your opinions and ideas out there
Bankie,
I believe it is the same. I’m not sure about the “beta” part.
WOW. My adsense CTR has been in the toilet for a long while. I didn’t know that being a small-fry was affecting my click values. I’ve taken your and Court’s advice and removed adsense from all my sites. I’ll let a bit of time pass and put them back on.
Hopefully I’ll start earning nickles and dimes instead of parts of pennies!
I will stick with Google. By the way, aren’t they going to get bought out by MSN. That kind of tells you that Yahoo is a little unsteady.
I found your site on Google, it seems great i had add your rss to my dashboard. I wiil see but your blog looks great. For your post, don’t you think that the adsense earning are going down?
Any update on how the yahoo ads are working? Are you seeing better return than with Google adsense?
Thanks,
Gotafish
So far, I would say on this blog, Yahoo ads are doing about the same as Google ads did. I may write a post about this in the next month or so. I am happy I signed up though as it gives me another option and options are good.
Hi Bruce,
I followed your post and I’d love to give Yahoo a go, but they still don’t accept anyone outside the US, which is a bummer. Maybe sometime after they get out of beta, but for now I’ve got the dregs (Bidvertiser) to work with until something better comes along.

Yeah when are yahoo getting out of beta, i would not mind trying them as well..
