If you have lost your job, you should qualify for health insurance through COBRA for 18 months. This means that you will be able to get the same health insurance you had at your job for the same price (there might be a small fee added). However, you will now have to pay the full amount of the coverage when most likely your employer was paying part of it when you were working.

For many, this means that even though you will keep your same health insurance through COBRA, you will be paying more each month. It is convenient to keep your same coverage but not everyone can afford to do that and pay the whole amount. So you might be looking for alternatives and a good place to start is here: Don’t pay more for COBRA!! There are individual plans that may be more affordable for you so it pays to check out all your options first before you automatically sign up through COBRA.

We voted for change right? So how is it looking so far? How many of you go to work everyday not knowing whether it will be your last? How many of you are looking everyday for jobs that are hiring because you can’t get one? Jobs are disappearing all over the place and it still looks like things will continue to get worse before anything turns around. How many are looking for Obama debt relief hoping to find some way out of all the mounting debt many families are facing? The Obama deficit and mounting personal debt will probably follow us and our children for the rest of our lives.

If you thought you were going to get some free Obama help with jobs, grants, debt, money, daycare, health care, or whatever it should be clear by now that it isn’t going to happen. Every one’s job is in jeopardy and that includes company presidents, upper management, middle management, lower management and everyone else. There is no where to hide and Obama can’t help you.

If you are smart right now, you are trying to set up a second income job where ever you can find one. Seriously, it is no time to sit around and feel sorry for yourself. You know about survival of the fittest? Well, things could get like that.

A New Era Of Jobs Is Upon Us

Jobs and job descriptions are changing. A real 9 to 5 job used to be the “safe” job. It is the only thing that 99% of us have ever had and ever known. A corporate or 9 to 5 job is where you get your health care, your 401 K, your two weeks vacation, and your team building meetings. It is where you have your 1 on 1′ s with your boss that doesn’t have a clue what you do. Your job is where you sit in that cubicle from hell and live half your life. But it is the only thing you have ever known and you don’t want to give it up.

Some people are risk takers and those people have never had those 9 to 5′s or they found a way to leave them behind. They are the ones who forge their own way, work from home, and are self employed. They pay their own health care, set up their own IRA’s, and (gasp) have to send in taxes out of their account quarterly to the IRS. These people are the ones that had the risky job and they were the brave ones.

Self Employed People And Jobs Might Be The Safer Route

Now though, with the economy being what it is and Obama wreaking havoc with our lives and our children’s lives, maybe the nature of jobs and job security has changed. Just maybe these people that have learned how to fend for themselves are the ones with the advantage. After all, if you work for yourself, you can’t get fired. You may lose clients and work but you aren’t kicked into the street with hardly a “thanks” and “goodbye”.

I think it is safe to say that if you are self employed and out there all on your own, you might be in a safer job security position than all the working stiffs of the world. With the Obama deficit, Obama taxes going up (and anyone with half a brain should know they are),and Obama health care possibly being passed, jobs are going to continue to disappear for some time. If you are self employed doing something, you are probably in a less tenuous position than many of the people who don’t have a clue they might get canned any day.

Right now there are tons of people searching the web for information on Obama help and Obama stimulus checks. These people can’t fend for themselves and they need government assistance from our new President. They are not prepared for the bad times and need Obama’s assistance. They are looking for ways to earn money or more pointedly, handouts from Obama. Finally, they want your money and think they have the right to it.

Is It Time To Start A New Career?

People change careers all the time by going back to school, getting training, and learning new skills. Now might be the best time of all to learn how to market your abilities online and create a second income. The shift to the Internet has already begun and the more online abilities you have and the knowledge of how to market those skill will serve you well in the future. Working from home online is here to stay. That fact is quite obvious by now so it is a prudent decision to figure out what you can do and get started learning!

If you are a work at home Mom or maybe even a work from home Dad, you might have the benefit of having health insurance through your working spouse. Or you may be lucky and be able to have that stay at home job with a company that gives you health benefits.

Not everyone is so lucky and many people who have work from home jobs are really self employed. If you fall under the category of working for yourself, you undoubtedly have or have had the dilemma of where to get quality health insurance for self employed people. I have written about the many challenges of being self employed, and finding self employed health insurance is only one of them. We all need health insurance and finding it yourself when you are on your own can be a challenge.

__________________________________

Before you read further, if you are looking to find the best health insurance rates, there are several places you can go. The first is InsureMe.com where they will give you free quotes from all the major insurance companies including Aetna, Humana, Assurant Health, and Uni Care. The second place is NetQuote where they will also give you the best health insurance quotes quickly and they are free as well. It would be interesting to compare the quotes that you get from the two of them to see if they are the same.

__________________________________

The big debate in politics for the last 10 years or so is whether to nationalize health care. Many people feel that heath insurance and health care is a god given right and the government should take it over. The problem with that is that the government is usually a failure at whatever it does. Is the government social security system a success? No, as it will be bankrupt before I have the chance to get any of my money back. Are the government programs to help the poor a success? No, as we have just as many poor people as we ever have had. Does the government do a good job in times of tragedy? I think the victims of hurricane Katrina would answer no to that.

The only thing the government does well is to police the nation and to defend our country. Of course even that will have many people in disagreement. Why then should we ever attempt to nationalize health-care? If the government fails at almost everything it does, why on earth should we hand over the whole health care system too? The United States right now has the best health care in the world and this is evidenced by the fact that many people fly here to have their operations done. If you are in trouble health wise, the US is THE place to get the best doctors and care.

If the health care system were nationalized, finding health insurance for self employed would no longer be a problem. We would all have access to health insurance and health care but what would be the quality of that care? Right now, people in Canada and Britain have to wait in line for their health care. Do you want to wait in line to see a doctor? Waiting in line is OK at the supermarket but not at a doctors office or hospital.

It is true that some people have trouble finding quality health insurance and especially self employed health insurance. However, the system works for most of us and we do have the best health care in the world. Why would we jeopardize that? If we did nationalize it, more people might have access to it but the quality would go down. There is always a price and no system that will work for every single person.

The bottom line is that there is no perfect system where everyone will have the best health care at a price they can afford. Nothing in life works that way. America was born by people who wanted to limit the influence of government in their lives. I say, if you want government health care and health insurance, move to Canada or Great Britain.
